Happy Groundhog Day!
Last month, two more reviews for SYRENKA were posted on Amazon.
The first reviewer wasn’t very happy with the ending of SYRENKA and gave it 2.5 stars although Amazon registered it as three. While we can appreciate that not everyone is into dark fairy tales, Stephen Oravec’s retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s THE LITTLE MERMAID is openly and admittedly dark in its book blurb on Amazon. Readers looking for a Disneyesque happy ending will not find it here, and we would argue Oravec’s ending isn’t nearly as depressing as Andersen’s.
The second reviewer rated SYRENKA five stars and offered an analysis of the mood and moral of the story. We appreciate all reviews, but we are particularly happy with this reviewer’s willingness to inspect the depth of Oravec’s retelling of Andersen’s tale.
We hope you get a chance to read SYRENKA sometime soon, and we’d love to hear what you think!
SYRENKA gets its second review on Amazon, and it’s another 5 stars!
A short review, but very much appreciated!
SYRENKA book blurb:
A reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid,” Stephen Oravec’s “Syrenka” tells the tale of the double-amputee title character, a soldier discarded by society and reduced to poverty in Typhaon, a city first mentioned by the Prince of Amalthea in the author’s CINDERELLA CABLEPUNK. Obsessed with the Prince of Typhaon whose life she saved during the city’s Civil War, Syrenka will do anything to win him over, including making a deadly pact with the mysterious river witch Sibyl. A short, violent retelling, “Syrenka” will have you looking at classic characters in a dark, new light.
SYRENKA is available exclusively for Kindle on Amazon.
We hope to hear what you think too!
